The Portable Kit: How to Pack Makeup Everyday

Lunch breaks always call for a makeup retouch, and that is only possible when you are bringing the right stuff with you everyday. Let me tell you something: Despite my love for makeup, the amount of products I put in my kit sometimes makes me panic. There came a time when I could never figure out which item it was that contributed the most in the weight I carry around on the daily. And that frustrated me a lot back then. Until I discovered that it was the makeup! The freaking makeup kit!

After the many times that I tried figuring it out, I finally learned how to properly pack my everyday makeup essentials the panic-free way. Here are my tips!

1. PICK THE RIGHT COSMETIC KIT

Learn to choose the right kit for your use depending on two things: a) the amount of makeup products you take with you, and b) the amount of space you have inside your bag. Ideally, you’d want to minimize the amount of makeup products you bring as much as you can (which I’ll be further giving tips on). So it is important to keep your kit compact and small enough to fit inside your bag so as to make space for other important stuff. But also, make sure that it doesn’t come out bulky! We still want our kit concise but pretty.

2. NARROW IT DOWN TO JUST THE ESSENTIALS

Obviously, and this is something you probably know already, don’t bring your entire makeup shrine with you. Just bring enough for occasional touch-ups, particularly your powder foundation, blush, eyebrow pencil, mascara, and concealer. Those are what I personally call the re-touch basics. And then there’s the products that belong to the secondary group: contour, highlighter, and eyeshadow—but these are only ideal to include if and only if you manage to…

3. FIND A MULTIPURPOSE PALETTE

Am I making sense here?! I certainly hope so! I personally have all contour, highlighter, and the eyeshadow of my choice in my everyday makeup kit because I have a palette that has them ALL together. Well, not necessarily all of them in just one compact palette, but I do have Zoeva’s The Basic Moment Blush Palette which already has a contour, blush, and highlighter in one, and the H&M Peaches and Gold Travel Palette with a blush and four eyeshadow shades with a bonus peach-y highlighter. All in all, I get the contour, two choices of blush and highlighters, and four eyeshadow shades in two compact palettes. Talk about space-saving, right?!

4. LET THE DOUBLE-ENDED BLUSH BRUSH SAVE YOUR LIFE

When you’re on the go, there’s no space for your entire brush set but I know you already know that. But no worries, the handy double-ended blush brush (I recommend this one from Make Up For Ever) will surely save your woes. This staple brush gives you both a rounded and an angled end good for contour and blush touch-ups. Convenience, I believe, is the perfect definition!

5. ONE LIP PRODUCT IS ENOUGH (I BELIEVE IN YOU)

At least for me, it is. I either bring MAC’s Velvet Teddy or Nudestix’s Mystic Lip & Cheek Tint. Both are very nude-ish in color and perfect for touch-ups!

Now you’re all set, happy on-the-go packing!
